Megan Justice has undergraduate research published!
Megan’s undergraduate research work on de novo sequencing and analysis of the Sumatran Rhinoceros genome has been accepted for publication at the journal Current Biology. This work will also be referenced in a highlighted release for a lay audience. The results of this study reveal that before human interaction with the species, ecological pressures had already begun decreasing the population size, contributing to the endangered status of the Rhinoceros.
Welcome Graduate Rotation Student Keean Braceros
Keean is a graduate student in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP). He has joined the Dowen Lab for his winter rotation where he will do some “wet” and “dry” work investigating mechanisms of transcriptional regulation. Welcome Keean!
Postdoc Zach Carico accepted into the Cancer Epigenetics Training Program
Zach is one of three postdoctoral fellows selected for UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center’s new training program funded by the National Cancer Institute. This is a competitive program that will fund Zach’s research for at least one year. In the “Cancer Epigenetics Training Program” Zach will obtain exceptional training in the epigenetic mechanisms that underlie human tumor development and potential avenues for therapeutic intervention. Awesome news Zach!
Welcome Undergraduate Researcher Holden Stefan!
Holden is a sophomore Biology major who is diving into research this year. We are excited to have him learn general lab tasks and a variety of experimental techniques. Welcome to the Dowen lab!
